Saturday, March 9, 2013 AWP So to Speak Off-Site Reading
So to Speak and I would like to invite you to attend the offsite reading we are hosting at this year’s AWP conference! To celebrate our 21st birthday, we’re hosting a reading on Saturday from 3-5 pm with readings by some of our favorite writers: Danielle Pafunda, Lara Glenum, Julie Marie Wade, and Moira Egan. The reading will be held at Sonsie, a restaurant just a few blocks away from the conference at 327 Newbury St., Boston, Massachusetts 02115.
Danielle Pafunda is the author of Manhater (Dusie Press Books), Iatrogenic: Their Testimonies (Noemi Press), My Zorba (Bloof Books), and Pretty Young Thing (Soft Skull Press). A fifth collection Natural History Rape Museum is forthcoming from Bloof Books. Her manuscript The Dead Girls Speak in Unison has been a finalist for the National Poetry Series and the Cleveland State University Poetry Center Open Prize. Her work has been anthologized in Beauty Is A Verb: The New Poetry of Disability (Cinco Puntos Press), (Scribner 2004, 2006, & 2007), Gurlesque: The New Grrly, Grotesque, Burlesque Poetics (Saturnalia Press), and Not for Mothers Only: Contemporary Poems on Child-Getting and Child Rearing (Fence Books). Her poems, essays, and short stories appear in American Poet,Conjunctions, Denver Quarterly, Fairy Tale Review, Kenyon Review, The Huffington Post, and the like. Danielle blogs for Montevidayo, and is an editor for the online journal Coconut.
Moira Egan’s poetry collections are Cleave (WWPH, 2004); Bar Napkin Sonnets (The Ledge, 2008 Chapbook Prize); La Seta della Cravatta/The Silk of the Tie (Edizioni l’Obliquo, 2009); and Spin (Entasis Press, 2010). Her poems have been published in numerous journals in the U.S. and internationally, and in anthologies such as Best American Poetry 2008, The Book of Forms, and many others. She has held fellowships with the Rockefeller Foundation (Bellagio Center), Civitella Ranieri, the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation at VCCA, and others. With her husband, Damiano Abeni, she has published books in translation in Italy by John Ashbery, John Barth, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Anthony Hecht, Mark Strand, and others; translations in English appear in the FSG Book of 20th Century Italian Poetry and are forthcoming in Farrar Straus & Giroux’s My Poetry Will Not Change the World by Patrizia Cavalli. In 2013, Edizioni l’Obliquo will publish her fifth collection of poetry, Strange Botany/Botanica Arcana.
Lara Glenum is the author of three books of poetry, including The Hounds of No and Maximum Gaga. She is also the co-editor, with Arielle Greenberg, of Gurlesque, an anthology of contemporary women’s poetry and visual art. She has been the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship and the co-recipient of an NEA Translation fellowship. She teaches in the MFA program at LSU.
Julie Marie Wade is the author of 2 collections of lyric nonfiction,Wishbone: A Memoir in Fractures (Colgate University Press, 2010) and Small Fires (Sarabande Books, 2011), and 2 collections of poetry, Without (Finishing Line Press, 2010) and Postage Due (White Pine Press, 2013). She earned a Master of Arts in English at Western Washington University in 2003, a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry at the University of Pittsburgh in 2006, and a PhD in Interdisciplinary Humanities at the University of Louisville in 2012. Wade lives with her partner and their two cats in the Sunshine State, where she is the newest member of the graduate faculty in creative writing at Florida International University in Miami.
