Call for Chapbook Submissions | Minerva Rising
Everything obeyed our laws and
we just went on self-improving
till a window gave us pause and
there the outside world was, moving.
–Heather McHugh, Glass House
Heather McHugh, MacArthur Genius, acclaimed author of 8 poetry collections, several books of translations, and essays, and educator, will judge finalist chapbooks for the 2nd Annual “Dare to Be” chapbook competition from Minerva Rising.
Minerva Rising is an independent literary journal celebrating the creativity and wisdom in every woman. We publish thought-provoking fiction, non-fiction, photography, poetry and essays by women writers and artists. Minerva Rising has grown out of a love of literature and the knowledge that when women come together, we flourish. Just as the Goddess Minerva represented creativity, wisdom, medicine, commerce, arts and education, our journal provides the opportunity for and the evidence of that bounty.
Accepting submission until November 15, 2014, Minerva Rising is looking for poetry collections between 14-28 pages long. With an entry fee of $20, the winner will receive 10 copies of the chapbook and $250. A portion of the reading fees and proceeds from chapbook sales will go toward funding The Owl of Minerva Award, which is a $500 scholarship providing one woman writer support to further her writing endeavors, awarded during Women’s History Month.
Minerva Rising publishes literature and visual art that is thought-provoking, insightful, riveting and often soul-baring. We are committed to developing all the women artists who join our community. Our editors take pride in the personal attention we offer to the reams of exceptional material we receive month after month.
The 2014 Chapbook Contest is limited to poetry but not limited to form. If you have a poetic voice and vision, please share it with us.
Two White Beds by Laura Cherry is the 2013 chapbook contest winner.
