Call for Submissions | Adrienne Rich Feature | The Critical Flame

In the March-April 2015 issue The Critical Flame will commemorate the third anniversary of Adrienne Rich’s passing with a special multi-essay feature on her poetry, criticism, feminism, and politics. CF is currently accepting submissions of textual analysis, critical essays, philosophical examinations, and personal reflections on Rich’s poetry and/or essays. Contributions should be 1,500–3,000 words in length. Introductions and general overviews are not recommended. To submit, or to make inquiries, email the editors at info [at] criticalflame.org.

Founded in late 2008, the mission of The Critical Flame is simple: to encourage intelligent, in-depth public discussion about literature and culture. A literary publication ought to advance the national discourse on literature and, more broadly, on the state and values of the culture. We operate on the great hope that open and articulate discussion is as easily spread as wildfire, that CF will be a spark in arid kindling. When considering a title for review, we ask only, “Why is this worth reviewing?” Or perhaps a better way to put it would be, “What good is there to be had from a review of this book?”

Beginning in May 2014, CF will dedicate one year of its review coverage to women writers and writers of color. Read editor Daniel Evans Pritchard’s note on the project for background. Find out how you can contribute a review or essay.

from What Kind of Times Are These

And I won’t tell you where it is, so why do I tell you
anything? Because you still listen, because in times like these
to have you listen at all, it’s necessary
to talk about trees.

Read and listen to the entire poem at the Poetry Foundation.
